Text your Close contacts with Textually

Textually connects to Close in a few minutes. Your contacts come into a list, you push them into a multi-step text sequence that stops when someone replies, and each reply or opt-out is added to the Close record as a note. Contacts without a consent record come in but can’t be texted.

Who is the Close integration for?

Close is a CRM for teams that sell by phone and follow up hard. The integration brings Close contacts into a text sequence and adds every reply and opt-out to the lead in Close.

Textually is business texting built on sequences: texts go out from numbers we register for your business, each lead stays on the number that first texted them, and every reply lands in one shared inbox. Close stays your record of who each person is and what happened.

How do I connect Close to Textually?

Four steps, all in Settings, then Integrations. Nothing is texted during setup: an import only fills a list.

  • Connect. Paste your Close API key in Settings, then Integrations, then Close. In Close, open Settings, then Developer, then API keys, and create a key.
  • Match fields. Phone, name, email and company are matched for you. Match a consent source and date too if Close holds them.
  • Test import. Textually reads your first 100 contacts and shows how many would come in, how many are ready to text, and why the rest would stay out. Nothing is saved and nobody is texted.
  • Import. The contacts land in a list under Lists, then Integrations, then Close. From there you push them into a campaign like any other list.

Textually reads Close contacts with their phone, email and name, and the company from the lead they belong to. Custom fields can be matched by hand.

A contact gets a consent record only when Close itself holds a consent date and a consent source or a yes on an opt-in field. Textually never makes one up from the import date.

If you record texting consent in a Close custom field, match it in the field step.

Contacts without a consent record still come into the list, so you can see them, but a text step skips them, the same as a CSV import. Record consent on the list when you have it, or confirm consent for the whole campaign at launch, and they become textable. More in SMS opt-in wording.

What does Textually write back to Close?

When someone texts back or opts out, Textually adds a note to their Close record with what they said. You can also turn on a note when a lead finishes a sequence.

Your team answers the reply in Textually’s shared inbox, from the same number the lead already knows. Close gets the history, so anyone who opens the record there sees that the lead wrote back, and that a STOP means no more texts.

Does it stay in sync with Close?

Yes, if you turn on Keep in sync. Every hour Textually reads contacts added or changed in Close since the last sync and updates the list.

  • A Close record already in the list is updated when its values change, never added twice.
  • A new record whose phone number is already in the list is left out, so nobody gets the same text twice.
  • Records with no phone number, a number outside the US and Canada, or a do-not-text mark in Close stay out, and the test import tells you how many.

Disconnecting stops the reading and the notes. Your list and everyone already in it stay as they are.

Guides on this topic

Questions.

Will my Close contacts be texted as soon as they import?

No. An import only adds them to a list. Nobody is texted until you push the list into a campaign and launch it, and even then only contacts with a consent record or the campaign-wide consent confirmation.

Do the texts come from Close?

No. Texts go out from Textually numbers registered to your business with the carriers, and replies come back to Textually's shared inbox. Close gets a note for each reply and opt-out.

What happens when a Close contact replies STOP?

They are opted out in Textually at once and no later step reaches them. Textually adds a note to their Close record saying they opted out.

How often does Textually sync?

Every hour while Keep in sync is on, plus whenever you run an import by hand. Each sync brings in records added or changed since the last one.

Can I text Canadian contacts?

Yes. Textually texts US and Canadian numbers. Canadian contacts go out from verified toll-free numbers, and CASL rules apply to them.
