Business texting for Canadian teams

Textually is a business texting and SMS marketing service for teams with Canadian customers. Canada runs on verified toll-free numbers, and we verify yours for you. Every text checks for a consent record first, as CASL expects. STOP and ARRET end texts to that person at once. Replies from both countries land in one shared inbox.

Who can text in Canada with Textually?

Canadian businesses and sole proprietors who text people that agreed to hear from them. Every team applies first and tells us who they text and how those people opted in.

  • Canadian businesses register with their Business Number (BN).
  • Canadian sole proprietors can be verified without a Business Number.
  • Everyone goes through the same review. We check your use case and how people opted in before any number is set up.

Why does Canada run on verified toll-free numbers?

Canada has no 10DLC registry, and Canadian carriers filter business texts from ordinary numbers heavily. Business texts to Canadian mobiles go out from toll-free numbers that have passed toll-free verification. We file the verification for you.

Verification reviews each number: the business behind it, what it will send, how people opt in and two sample messages. You fill in your details once. We file them, follow the review and set up the number when it is approved. There is no fee for Canadian toll-free verification.

A verified toll-free number can text Canadian and US mobiles. Teams that text both countries often add local numbers for US leads. The toll-free verification guide lists what the review asks for, and toll-free vs 10DLC compares the two routes.

Is CASL consent checked on every send?

Yes. A text step sends only to a lead with a consent record, the source and date they agreed, or when you confirm consent for the whole campaign at launch. Leads with no consent are skipped, not texted.

  • Consent before the first text. CASL needs express or implied consent for every commercial text, and the sender must be able to prove it (CASL, s. 6(1) and s. 13).
  • A consent statement is ticked when you import a list, push leads to a campaign and launch.
  • Implied consent runs out. It lasts two years after a purchase and six months after an inquiry (CASL, s. 10(10)). Keep the consent type and date in a column so you can see when it ends.
  • Your name and an opt-out line. Every text carries the opt-out line until the person writes back. Your business name and contact link go in the text you write.

The CASL guide reads the Act section by section for texts, and the texting rules page sums up Canada and the US side by side. Neither is legal advice.

How are STOP and ARRET handled?

At once. A reply of STOP or ARRET ends texts to that person across your whole workspace, well inside the 10 business days CASL allows (CASL, s. 11(3)). HELP and AIDE get your business name and how to reach you.

  • One opt-out list for the workspace. A person who opted out in one campaign is never texted from another.
  • Local sending hours. Texts go out in your sending hours on the lead’s own clock, read from the area code, from Newfoundland to British Columbia.
  • A reply ends the sequence for that lead and lands in one shared inbox.

What does texting Canada cost?

A toll-free number is $12 a month, plus a $49 monthly platform fee, locked for your first 12 months (founding price for the first 1,000 teams; standard price $99 a month), plus the texts you send. Texts cost 5¢ down to 2.5¢ each, bought up front, and replies are free.

  • Toll-free number: $12 a month each.
  • Platform fee: $49 a month, with unlimited seats, the shared inbox, compliance checks and registration upkeep.
  • Texts: one text per segment, 5¢ down to 2.5¢. The same price for Canadian and US numbers. Texts last 12 months.
  • Verification: free for Canadian toll-free numbers.

Every line is on the pricing page. Billing starts when your first number goes live.

How long does setup take?

Most teams go from applying to their first campaign in about 1 to 3 weeks. Toll-free verification typically takes one to two weeks, and the carriers set the pace.

  • Apply (day 1): tell us who you text and how they opted in.
  • Review call (within days): a short call on your use case and consent.
  • Registration (1 to 3 weeks): we register your brand and verify your numbers.
  • Numbers go live (on approval): your numbers appear and billing starts.
  • First campaign (same day): import, write, confirm consent and launch.

Guides on this topic

Questions.

Can a business text customers in Canada?

Yes, with consent. CASL needs express or implied consent for every commercial text, your name and contact details, and an unsubscribe honoured within 10 business days. Business texts to Canadian mobiles go out from verified toll-free numbers.

Can I use Textually for SMS marketing in Canada?

Yes. Offers, promotions and follow-ups to Canadians are commercial texts under CASL, so each needs express or implied consent, your name and contact details, and a working unsubscribe. Textually checks for a consent record before every text and handles STOP and ARRET at once.

Does Textually work for bulk SMS in Canada?

Textually sends one-off campaigns and multi-step sequences to lists of people who agreed to hear from you. Every text checks for consent first, and replies come back to one shared inbox.

Do I need a Canadian Business Number?

A Canadian business gives its Business Number for toll-free verification. A sole proprietor can be verified without one.

Do I need French texts for Quebec?

Textually recognises the French opt-out and help words, ARRET and AIDE. Whether your messages themselves must be in French depends on your business and province. Ask a lawyer about your own program.

Can I text both Canada and the US?

Yes. A verified toll-free number texts Canadian and US mobiles. Many teams add local numbers for US leads and answer both countries from one inbox.
